Introduction
ASTM A53 Grade B is the material under the American steel pipe standard, API 5L Gr.B is also the American standard material, A53 GR.B ERW refers to the electric resistance welded steel pipe of A53 GR.B; API 5L GR.B Welded refers to the material Welded steel pipe of API 5L GR.B.
A53 pipe comes in three types (F, E, S) and two grades (A, B).
A53 Type F is manufactured with a furnace butt weld or may have a continuous weld (Grade A only)
A53 Type E has an electric resistance weld (Grades A and B)
A53 Type S is a seamless pipe and found in Grades A and B)
ASTM A53 pipe (also called ASME SA53 pipe) is designed for mechanical and pressure applications, and is also suitable for general use in steam, water, gas and air lines. It is suitable for welding and forming operations including winding, bending and flanging, subject to certain requirements.
